Fantasy/sci-fi reading, arts of the martial variety, painting, dancing (poorly), learning, foreign beer, foreign languages, foreign women, theatre. Yes, I'm a ponce and I spell it with an 're.' Woe is me, indeed. I wish my lawn was emo, because then it would cut itself.

Lemme start with this ~ I might change these from time to time, but long, droning, tired old lists bore me. I'm not going to type down here every single book/movie/artist/food that I've read/enjoyed/eaten/respected/stalked/made love to over the course of my life simply for your or anyone else's edification. I am more than the sum of my socio-cultural-literary-culinary experiences, so please please please don't feel like we can't exist in the same room because we don't appear to like the same ______. We might. Or maybe not. Polar opposites and blood feuds are even possible. I'm sure it'll lead to fine conversation either way. I digress.

300, Devil's Advocate, The Crow, Death to Smoochy, Lost In Translation, Donnie Darko, Brotherhood of the Wolf, almost anything Christian Bale is in, Battle Royale I&II, Return of the King (and really, all LOTR), Ring (the original Sadako one)

Tool, Disturbed, Ozzy, Saint-Saens, Judas Priest, Lacuna Coil, Tchaikovsky, Apoptygma Berzerk, A Perfect Circle, Dragonforce, Twisted Sister, Utada Hikaru, Green Day, Combichrist, The Tim Malloys, Kittie, Flogging Molly, Celtic Woman, Marilyn Manson, Celtic women, Rammstein, Yo-Yo Ma, Loreena McKennitt, Orbital, VNV Nation, Wild Colonial Bhoys, Mediaeval Baebes...music is my lifeblood, and what you see above is really only a small piece of the puzzle. I like mainstream, I like obscurities, I like at least one song/piece from almost every category - except probably country. You know what you get when you play a country song backwards? The singer's dog comes back, his truck starts working, and his wife tears up the divorce papers.

Wheel of Time series (or Wheel of Money, if you prefer) - yes, I've swallowed that bait hook, line and sinker. Yoshikawa Eiji's Musashi. And on that topic, the Art of War and Go Rin no Sho. Song of Ice and Fire. Ishmael was terribly sad but beautiful. Anything else thought-provoking enough to give me a new outlook on life. Oh, and Snow Crash. I am Hiro Protagonist. Sort of. Not really. Bridge of Birds, though I've yet to see the return of a few characters the author promised.

MacBooks; good industrial and futurepop music I can dance to; Wikipedia; long, dark hair; tattoos; the new, the experimental, the unvanilla...OK, and let's not kid ourselves - Women. And preferably in that same package, intelligent discourse. I find smart women who have spines (As in a spine, not multiple spines in one person. Or porcupine spines. That would be damn creepy. Where am I going with this?) to be incredibly attractive. Hot, even.

Obesity to the point of unhealthiness. Narrow-mindedness. Neo-conservatism. Nazis. Country music. George Bush. Environmentally unfriendly behavior. If you abuse animals I will abuse you.

I just made the transpacific leap from Bumfuck Nowhere in northern Japan, to Honolulu, HI to enter a brutally evil grad school program that will one day have me making millions and influencing worldwide policy on a whim *cough* maybe... *cough* but right now is grinding away at my eternal soul.

This is not to say that I have no free time and can't actually have a social life - nae, quite the opposite. I am not a basement-dwelling cave creature and I get really twitchy if I stay cooped up for too long, though I vastly prefer to go out at night. The sun...it burns ussssss...go ahead and point out the irony of me living in Hawaii now, if you like.

I'm not really hot on the idea of e-friends. Everyone I communicate with regularly I've either met or have a serious intention to meet, and I have trouble understanding people who don't share that sentiment. This is much more about intention than action, though, so don't shy away if you live nowhere near me. I love knowing people from all over the world, but I'd be pretty put off by someone who never wanted to meet even if geographic location wasn't an issue.
Yeah, by meeting someone you're opening yourself up to them a bit and taking a risk. But if they're worthwhile people to spend time with, they'll respect and appreciate you for it, and not judge you harshly. There's so much of human interaction that text (or even a phone call) just isn't adequate for, and if more people were up for actually spending time with each other, I think the world would be a happier place.

Does this make me a cheery, optimistic goth? Possibly. I don't and never will consider myself gothier-than-thou, but I know what I like. You should probably send me a message if you've read this far and are still interested.
